    Meeting Description:

Our speaker, Eric Ong, (see his bio below) will explain how security-by-design in software system engineering is a proactive approach that integrates security considerations at every stage of development. Rather than being an add-on, security features are woven into the system’s foundation, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing robust measures during the design phase. By adopting this methodology, developers create resilient systems inherently protected against diverse threats, enhancing the system’s ability to withstand attacks. This approach not only ensures data and privacy protection but also fosters user trust. Ultimately, security-by-design recognizes cyber security as a fundamental aspect of software engineering, essential for building reliable and trustworthy digital solutions.

Eric Ong is currently the Senior Director for Global Information Security at Donaldson Company Inc.. Previously, he was Senior Manager for Security Architecture and Strategy at 3M Company and Senior Security Architect at Target Corporation. Eric is a Ph.D. candidate in Security. He also holds an M.S. in Software Engineering (Computer Security concentration) and CISSP, CCSK, CSPO, and CRHE certifications. Eric co-founded a collegiate institution in Singapore and founded the International Education Institute to build partnerships between American and overseas universities and international businesses and governments. Eric is committed to helping close the information security talent gap. He founded the Minnesota Institute of Information Security and Technology (accredited by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education) to equip the next generation of industry-ready ethical security practitioners. Eric is also an executive board member for the Infragard MN Chapter.
