Workshop: Practical use-cases

10:30 – 12:00

Abstract
Use-case 1: Enabling MBSE with Simulation to perform System Analysis for SOLARIS
This presentation explores the joint use of Model-Based System Engineering (Capella) and Simulation (System Composer, Simulink) to perform architecture optimization and system analysis in the context of the project SBSP (Space-Based Solar Power, part of the ESA SOLARIS program).

Use-case 2: Safety Analysis as an extension of MBSE
This presentation explores Model-Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) as an effective strategy for verifying and validating safety requirements for mobile robots. Specifically, we demonstrate how MBSA enables the initiation of safety analysis early in the development phase and allows it to proceed in tandem with design activities. Furthermore, we highlight the role of simulation data in validating the assumptions underpinning safety analyses and ensuring alignment between design and safety considerations.

Bio Marco Bimbi
Marco Bimbi is a Principal Application Engineer focusing on Model Based Systems Engineering workflows for safety critical applications. Marco joined MathWorks in 2022. Before joining The MathWorks, he has worked for 10+ years in aerospace as well as rails industries such as Rolls-Royce and Deutsche Bahn focusing on Systems Engineering workflows for safety critical applications. During his career he held various roles such as Control Systems Architect, Model Based Systems Engineering Specialist and Requirements Manager. At MathWorks Marco helps customers to leverage MathWorks toolchain, including System Composer, for their Systems Engineering workflow. Moreover, Marco provides industry insight to the MathWorks development team to drive future product capabilities.

Bio Stephan van Beek
Stephan van Beek brings over 15+ years of dedicated service at MathWorks, Eindhoven, where his role as a technical specialist has made him a key player in the Systems Engineering and Embedded Systems (FPGA, SoC) landscape. Stephan connects with customers across Europe and his ability to merge the principles of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with Model-Based Design (MBD) have made him a go-to expert in his field.
Before joining the ranks at MathWorks, Stephan was part of the electronic design methodology team at Océ-Nederland, where he played a crucial role in enhancing design workflows. His professional journey also includes a chapter at Anorad Europe BV, delving into the intricacies of motion control systems.
Studied at Eindhoven University of Applied Sciences, where he earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Stephan combines his academic insights with real-world experience to deliver practical and innovative solutions.
