Requirements Engineering with AI

13:00 – 14:30

Abstract
This 90-minute workshop “Requirements Engineering with AI: Leverage AI to Craft Clear and Unambiguous Requirements” introduces participants to the principles and practices of writing good needs/ requirements, combining INCOSE best practices with the practical use of AI as a supportive tool. The session begins with an overview of the INCOSE Requirements Engineering products and the Guide to Writing Requirements in particular. The Guide to Writing Requirements defines the nine characteristics of good needs/requirements and the six characteristics of good needs/requirement sets. Participants will then explore how draft, free-form requirements can be gradually improved using structured requirement patterns, such as the Easy Approach to Requirements Syntax (EARS) and finally, AI.

A gradual improvement process will be demonstrated: identifying first issues in draft requirements, applying requirement patterns to enforce uniformity and improve quality, and using AI tools to refine formulation. AI is presented as an assistant that helps system engineers in their work, not as a replacement for their judgment. The workshop includes a hands-on exercise in which participants improve a couple of requirements manually and compare their version with an AI-refined alternative. By the end of the session, participants will understand how to integrate INCOSE principles, patterns, and AI into their own development process.
