Abstract<\/strong>
\nDue to the energy transition and the increasing demand for electricity, the electricity grid is becoming increasingly complex.
\nIn this workshop, we explore how Systems Engineering and methodologies\/frameworks such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) can help to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Explicitly define stakeholders’ use cases,<\/li>\n
  • Identify and structure information needs,<\/li>\n
  • Apply these for reliability, maintenance, and grid optimization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Using simplified scenarios, participants will work hands-on on modeling concrete situations. We will discuss a use case related to new methods for monitoring and controlling the grid. This will give participants insight into how Systems Engineering can contribute to future-proofing the electricity grid, both technically and organizationally.<\/p>\n

    Bio Lambert Verhagen<\/strong><\/em>
    \nLambert Verhagen studied physics in the 1990s. He began his career as a software engineer. Naturally, he wondered how his work contributed to the larger system. And looking at it this way: “Why do we solve it this way?” He later learned that this mindset is a core value of systems engineering. He held (system) architecture positions in lithography, the maritime sector, and infrastructure.<\/em>
    \nHe is currently the Technology Leader for Systems Engineering and Sustainability at Capgemini Engineering. He paves the way for the Capgemini Systems Engineering community and participates in the INCOSE Sustainability working group.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Bio Marc Hamilton<\/em><\/strong>
    \nAt Capgemini Engineering, Marc Hamilton works on further developing tools to increase the productivity of engineering organizations. He has over 25 years of experience in automating engineering environments, particularly in high-tech, software-intensive systems. As a systems engineer for engineering systems, he has experience applying model-based systems engineering (MBSE) using various methodologies.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Bio Edwin de Kreij<\/em><\/strong>
    \nEdwin de Kreij is a Senior Systems Engineer with over 10 years of experience in the automotive and energy sectors. Before joining Capgemini in 2025, Edwin worked at Jaguar Land Rover, ZF, McLaren, Lightyear, Rimac Energy, and Alfen, among others, where he was responsible for system development and system integration of electrical systems. At Capgemini, Edwin further developed his interest in Smart Grids and applied his knowledge and experience to the Smart Grid Architecture Model.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Bio Roelof Klein<\/em><\/strong>
    \nRoelof Klein has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career 40 years ago as a systems engineer, designing, implementing, and commissioning industrial automation systems. He later became an OT architect and designed complex sensor, control, and operator room systems for the pharmaceutical, oil and gas, chemical, and utility industries. He is an expert in energy-related systems. He also has extensive knowledge of implementing security in OT systems.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
