2GW Program offshore grid and beyond
13:00 – 14:30
Abstract
How TenneT applies a systems approach to the largest offshore power transmission program in Europe and what will be the next steps to empower the future.
In this workshop Tennet, A transmission system operator for 43 million domestic and business users in Germany and The Netherlands, explains how they applied a systems approach to reduce cost, improve productivity and reduce risk on its largest offshore program ever. This is not where it ends. TenneT is working on the Target Grid 2050 to facilitate the energy transition in the Netherlands and Germany. This 160+ billion investment portfolio is a monumental tasks and we need state of the art methodologies to realize these assets. The workshop participants will be challenged to think along in the next steps for Systems Engineering at TenneT to optimally manage the increasing demand for green energy.
The 2GW program is a program of currently 17*2GW funded offshore-onshore grid connections; with the intention to increase this to 60 connections (120GW). The first 2GW connection projects are now well in delivery.
To address market capacity constraints, reduce cost and risk, Tennet used a systems engineering approach to its stakeholder management, Engineering, Procurement and change management. Implementation of the approach comes with a lot of challenges on standardization, ditgitilization but also culture and behavior.
TenneT has taken a frontrunner role in implementing Systems Engineering in the energy transition. But still, these are just the next steps. Let’s take the learnings from the 2GW program combined with the SE knowledge of INCOSE members to draw out the future of Systems Engineering at TenneT.
Bio Marien Ruppert
Marien Ruppert is currently working within TenneT as Lead of the Project Developers and Asset Specialist. Between 2018 – 2023 he has been the project developer / engineering manager for the 2GW program.
Bio Bart van Luling
Bart van Luling currently serves as the Technical Director of the Dutch INCOSE chapter and is a co-owner of the Dutch Boosting Group, where he has been a Principal Consultant and Coach since 2013. The past years he was deployed in the role of Systems Engineering lead for the 2GW Program, responsible for setting up and implementing the SE way of working and requirements database during contract preparation, tender and excecution of the 2GW projects.”
